Title: Shard of the Far Realm
Race: Shardmind
Appearance: Possesses no mouth but does not require sustenance (or rest for that matter.) Avathis in ways looks identical to its kind and in others it does not. To start with the similar traits, it is built out of many sharp crystalline shards that silently and slowly shift around its body depending on its mood and at whim, possessing the ability to fall, break, or shoot off its body on accident or by whim. Each individual singular piece glows faintly a spectacular color -- but this is where the differences can be obviously noted. As with most Shardmind's it is merely one color permanently from birth to death. With Avathis, the creature's shards can sometimes be a plethora of colors, or even take on an entire shade one moment, and then switch to another. This includes the creature's eyes, which emanates much more powerfully than the shards it adorns on its body. This, along with every other light source, can be removed by a thought, for hiding purposes and/or predilection. The color alteration, is sporadic and completely out of Avathis's control. It does possess clothing, the typical torn tattered cloths that rap around its pointy body and flowing back like a cape. Another notably different thing about its body is its unusual shortness, standing at a mere 5'7" which is actually short for its kind. And lastly, all Shardminds can make their body more masculine or feminine, Avathis using the latter as its preference.
Weapon: It possesses one weapon, which would be its staff. It was created from a collage of many different Shardmind stones, clearly not of his own for they are dim in light as if dead and stay only one color. It rises up his height and slightly above, longer more threatening spikes jutting from the tip.
Creation: Avathis Erandra is native to the Astral Sea but the reason for its title, "Shard of the Far Realm" pertains to its birth. Shardminds are sentient fragments of the Living Gate, which once stood at the pinnacle of the intricate lattice of the Astral Sea. Beyond that gate lay the alien Far Realm, and the gate's destruction during the Dawn War resulted in the rise of the mind flayer empire. Though Ioun's power holds the portal closed, shardminds seek to rebuild the gate and forever cut off the Far Realm's ability to influence the world. Now back to Avathis, as you know now, the Shardmind is part of the Living Gate, and although Shardmind indeed, it did not derive from the Living Gate at all. It merely appeared, and was shunned by its kind as being a creation of the Far Realm. The creature was not even named by another, and claims that upon birth it heard a strange voice telling it its name. Knowing its creator, be it the Living Gate or the Far Realm, it kept the name. Avathis is an avid Shard Slayer, under the strong belief that the death of Shardminds returns their animating force to the Living Gate, rebuilding it little by little.
Abilities: As with all Shardmind, it can speak telepathically to one or as many people as it wishes. It can also as mentioned before, dissemble and reassemble its body by decomposing or mentally calling forth detached shards. But pertaining to its expertise of skill, it is a very skilled Wizard; more specifically into the ability of summoning very bizarre creatures that the world have hardly seen before, and using them to protect itself and do work for it as it either watches or assists with elemental magic at its own leisure.
Personality: Again, common traits are present among it. It is very detached and very extreme with emotions -- either none at or bursting with anger or sadness. It is mostly quiet and likes to observe others fight or speak, only speaking when something intelligent or useful can be said in most cases. It is also rather egocentric due to its life of being thrown out and using raw power to acquire what it desires, usually thinking rules may irrationally not apply to it or think a nearly impossible challenge is rather quite possible. Although with that said, there is a very strong sense of paranoia and precaution in the back of its mind, using others if harm can may be present or setting upon back up plan upon back up plan upon back up plan, and also doing needless actions that may even make it look idiotic merely to try and prevent something from happening to it in normal or battle filled situations (but of course tries to prevent the latter by being a spectator or at the very leas initially.) Finally, there is a strange reclusive manner about this being that make it seem rather mysterious and unknown, generally doing things that only benefit itself rather than others, only sometimes doing things for others if they think in the end it will repay itself for the service.
Whereabouts: It is a nomad by nature and wanders alone, not out of preference, but it tends to be this way because of its lack of interest in entertaining interested folk, and on its long aimless journeys, it goes on non stop without rest or food, many curious travelers dying or giving up on the idea of following it on its sacred mission pertaining to the Living Gate. In addition, although poorer company than itself, it can summon party members with a wave of its staff. It has traveled through many cities in order to listen in on information or seek out other Shardminds, and also at times to swiftly still items of value or of interest, carrying a satchel of random trinkets, mostly of no use. Something worth noting is that at times it likes to catch attention and become famous or infamous to simply make itself known to the world, thinking it will help it progress further in its goal.
