What is the Arena?
The Arena is a place for RPers of great caliber to measure their skills against other 814 combatants. Stripping the traditional free form RP of story, and character development, the Arena is strictly a means of showcasing ones skill in battle scenarios. So be prepared for ruthless and cunning foes, mercy is not a word often found amongst those who are brave enough to brave these hallowed halls.
The Rules:
Players can post as many characters as they want, though before use they must pass an inspection by one of the Arbiters. Include physical description, name, skills, weapons, genre and name. Only with all of these factors is it possible to properly battle an opponent.
Once a character is established, the next step is to challenge a fellow Arena Combatant. Post your challenge in the Challenge Board including either a specific character or a genre you wish to do battle with and/or in. Be as detailed as possible, Arbiters must be able to see both combatants have a clear grasp on the environment. If accepted the two involved must work out the details, deciding on a score limit the most important. All battles must come to an end and thus require a clear score limit ranging from 5 to 50, with more only under special circumstances (More on scoring in a bit). Once the details are smoothed out, an Arbiter will give the okay and allow the challenger to open a battle thread in the Arena.
The Challenger defers choice over first post to the defender, it is his choice whether he will start the scuffle or wait to defend in his first post. Absolutely no GOD MODDING is allowed. Do not speak or control other characters. The only exception is showing the opponent successfully defending basic attacks. When doing a major strike, allow the opposing combatant room to decide whether he is hit or able to parry.
After the first two posts each the arbiter or arbiters involved grade each person’s posts based on three criteria;
Grammar: Here at 814 for excellence is our aim. Part of each RP post is ensuring a clear and decisive understanding of grammar is present. The only difference here is that grammar is scored. Our Arbiters will subtract .5 for each miss spelling, 1 for each run-on or fragmented sentence. Five points are allotted to this category.
Writing Skill: The other half of writing excellence is in the actual style. Arbiters will look for use of description, and creative writing techniques. Make your posts shine. Ten points are allotted to this character…Arbiters will judge as they see fit.
Originality: The final aspect of combat deals with the actual skill of the combatant. Use interesting and intelligent tactics. Immerse yourself into the battle and act as you would if you actually stood in the shoes of your character. Fifteen points are allotted to this criterion. Again the Arbiter has full control over how he/she judges this section.
After each post is judged the person who scores the most points gets a combat point. If it is a tie both combatants receive a combat point; Scores of five or less result in a subtraction of a combat point. This formula continues until one player reaches the allotted combat points-goal. The winner than is given the right to finish the post with a death post finishing off his foe as he/she sees fit…Mercy is an option, though it is for the weak.
If a tie exists after the goal is reached, there is allowed a total of three overtime rounds. If a clear victor is still not found, the Arbiter must step in and call the battle a draw. No one is allowed the coveted death post.
