Kristen looked around as everyone went dashing to their pokemon. She watched the strange boy fight with Gary about something, and then get an Eevee. She kept scanning the room and saw the boy she had been sitting beside retain a Ghastly. Apparently he had made a new friend, because he ran over to the boy who was playing with the Caterpie. "Professor Oak and I have been watching over Caterpie for sometime now. He had really grown into a sweet, and very strong pokemon," she thought to herself. The man that received the Caterpie was standing in front of her asking her if she wanted to go ahead of him and she simply shook her head and watched him walk away.
She had wanted everyone in that room to get a pokemon before her mainly because she thought it would be unfair of her to get the first of the picks, especially since she had been working with Professor Oak on this project. She walked over to the table where all the pokeballs were left and began to reach for one when the ball had opened in her palm and released a Vulpix. She looked down at the small, fury Vulpix and it looked up at her with great big, pleading eyes. Kristen bent down to look over the Vulpix and as she did, she ran her hand down the Vulpix's back. "Vullpiiiix" the small creature purred as she continued to pet it. Kristen smiled and again ran her hand down its spine. "You're a very handsome little Vulpix, aren't you?" she whispered to her new friend.
Akamaru came over to the Vulpix and began circling it. After he had done the same analysis over and over, he turned to Kristen and began barking and wagging his tail. Kristen petted both her new and old companions. "I think we're going to have a beautiful friendship here" she spoke and giggled. Kristen began to determine the sex of the Vulpix and found that it was a male. "Man am I lucky" she thought. Only twenty-five percent of the Vulpix that are birthed are male, whereas the majority of them are female.
"Well alright! Let's get this party started!" she shouted with glee as she and her new friends began to walk over to talk to the Professor.

As Jacob merely overheard what had taken in place in front of his paw covered eyes, he stuffed his pokeball into his belt and leaned over to pick up Lashes, “Come here you cute little— Eek!” he straightened up as the Eevee lashed its tail towards his face. “You like to be left alone don’t you? Quite a personality you have there, Lashes.” He reached into his pockets and pulled out a rice ball that was slightly crushed and poorly made. “I had learned…or at least attempted… to make rice balls, which seem to be a universally pokemon accepted food, from a book called ‘Poke Foods and Recipes by Brock, the Lady’s Man’ and then was followed by a phone number strangely. But anyhow here you go girl!” Lashes fluttered her eyes and rested her front paws on his leg as she stood up to sniff the meal tenderly before licking it patiently and taking a nibble before smiling and walking off. “Not much of an eater… Gosh I need to write down all of these things… makes sense… you are just a tiny little thing…”
After Jacob got his legs scratched up from insulting his Eevee, he witnessed people leaving for their homes. He took a few steps to do so as well until he remembered that he had lied to his parents, whom he hates, and then ditched them to receive things they distaste and do things they do not approve of, and most importantly, all far away from them. A small sense of sadness lurked. Then the next second went away and he smiled smugly. He already felt like a Pokemon master. Or maybe that was Lashes. Behind him he saw the remaining trainers who lingered still, and he gathered the courage to speak to the strangers after some hesitation. “Hello guys, um, I am wondering if you’d like to join me on my adventure? Assuming of course you have no other ends to tie up? The only thing I have here to do may be purchasing a potion from my father before I head out to the main exit of Pallet Town, Route 1. I stole one of my parent's maps of Kanto, so I know my way to each main city. I need all of the Pokemon badges to be the best, right?” He took a moment to day dream about being the best and the lengthy trip ahead and half forget he was speaking to a group of individuals at all. Lashes obsessively ran her body like a cat along his leg for comfort as it purred its name quietly and sweetly.

Miles watched as his new friend Dylan walked off to go to his home. “Today has been one interesting day. Huh Ghastly?” he said looking at his other new friend, and pokemon. Ghastly looked at him and began floating around his head saying “Ghhhassstly” over, and over again. “Well aren’t you in a joyous mood there”, Miles said while laughing.
That’s when he realized most of the new trainers were leaving…..going….home. Miles had to home to go to. He couldn’t bear breaking his parents hate face-to-face, but he knew he had to tell them something. He walked over to the desk and grabbed his second pokeball, and realized that Dylan had forgotten to grab his. He picked up his too figuring he'd just give it to him later that night. Looking over his shoulder looking at his pokemon he asked, “What kind of pokemon would you like to have as a friend there Ghastly?”
“Wait where did you go?”, Miles sad looking right and left. Ghastly was nowhere to be found. Feeling a great sense of loss Miles turned back to the desk only to find Ghastly floating in front of his face.
He couldn’t help but laugh. “Man you really love doing that. Don’t you little guy?” He raised his right hand up to cub the ghost pokemon, and Ghastly let out a joyful “Ghhhassstlyyy”.
I think we are going to get along swimmingly Miles thought. He then heard the younger trainer he had meet earlier begin to make an announcement asking if anyone would like to join him during his adventures. The boy seemed a little odd, but he figured he would see what his new friend Dylan’s plans were before committing to anything just yet.
He walked over to the boy, and listened as he talked about following the route to all the major pokegyms to acquire all the badges. “I think that my friend Dylan who got the caterpie and I might like to join you. I’ll have to check with him, but we can meet back here later tonight if you’d like. I need to go buy a few supplies, and say goodb…..well nevermind that. How does 8 sound? Ohh and what was your name again?"

The lab was only five minutes behind the two pals when suddenly Dylan realized something. "I've forgotten my spare Pokeball," he exclaimed. "Oh well, maybe Miles or one of others happened to notice and then picked it up for me."
For only going from Pallet Town to Viridian, the walk seemed to take a rather long time. This makes sense seeing as how Dylan was trying to stall long enough to think of an explanation for Caterpie. Out of nowhere he began to laugh while speaking to Caterpie. "Oh man Caterpie, you should have seen the look on that jerk Gary's face when you gave him that shot. He had no idea what happened." The little wormy Pokemon let out another squeal of happiness.
"That's it, all I gotta do is tell her the truth, right," Dylan asked as he looked to his shoulder for a sign of assurance. He, however, was met with a blank stare. "What help you are. Ah, its alright you're probably just really hungry. Well don't worry pal, my mom can cook." Dylan then glanced back up towards where he was walking and found that he was already at the front door of his house.
"Okay Caterpie, be sure to be very polite. And be sure to take your shoes off! My mom is a stickler for things like that," the young trainer said as he opened the door.
"Who are you talking to sweetie," Ms. Husted yelled from the kitchen.
Annoyed that he was already being yelled at within the first minute of his arrival, he shouted back to her, "I brought a friend home for dinner, ma! He's pretty hungry, and I would be too if I worked up an appetite like him!" Dylan smiled down at Caterpie who had crawled down from his comfy shoulder, while he was taking his shoes off.
Ms. Husted beckoned the two of them into the dining room with her voice, and the look on her face was priceless when she finally laid eyes upon the duo. "This doesn't look like custodial stuff to me, Dyl. Well, there is nothing I can do about this, you are a man and are able to make your own decisions. But why on Earth would you pick a Caterpie if you are going to be a Pokemon trainer?" Caterpie, who had stealthily showed up on Dylan's shoulder again, immediately reared back to fire a String Shot in her direction. In a smooth counter move, Dylan fake coughed, and jerked his shoulder, launching Caterpie into the air. The noise that came out of Caterpie's mouth was one of sheer terror. Right before he was about to pass by the reach of his trainer's arms, he felt a pair of hands snatch him softly out of the air.
Dylan carried Caterpie over to the dinner table and took his seat next to his mom. And there it was, the pie that he had promised Caterpie. Without hesitation, he was reaching for the pie and speaking to his mother simultaneously. "Ma, I wasn't joking around about a Caterpie's appetite. I hope you weren't planning on having a nice, sit down dessert." He took the pie, placed it in his lap, and then gently lifted Caterpie off of his shoulder, then placed him on top of the pie. "Enjoy friend!"
"Oh yeah, one more thing, ma," he said with his mouth full of veggies. "Another friend might be coming over also. I just met him today. His name is Miles. He's a trainer too!"
Ms. Husted could barely help but look at her son and feel happy for him. To her, it seemed like this was what her boy really wanted to do. "Well I hope this Miles didn't also pick a Caterpie, or I am going to have a lot more baking to do." She slowly stood up with a goofy smirk on her face, walked away from the table, and left her son to converse with his new friend.

Jacob stared off at the pokefarm at the untouched pokemon in the field. Would it be wrong to take more than just one?... No of course that would be wrong! And it’s not like one of these wild animals would disappear and not go unnoticed, as he watched a machop terrorizing an Ekans by riding it like a horse as the purple snake pokemon hissed angrily. And on top of all that, he added in his thoughts as he looked down at the charming Lashes, this pokemon would get insanely jealous. ‘I get enough lashes anyhow,’ he laughed out loud. He then realized that Miles responded to what he asked. “What was that, come again?” But before Miles could repeat his message, it finally registered in his mind what was said. “Oh oh, ummm… That is fine I suppose since that is just a few hours…” He at first was dismayed at the thought of the following hours but remembered he was a trainer, life can never EVER be boring! Ever! “That is fine, I’ll be doing absolutely nothing illegal or wrong… hopefully I’ll meet you and everyone else at the start of Route 1.” With that strange note, Jacob began to wave with a few fingers and walk off as he also added a more affectionate wave towards the playing young pokemon, “It was nice seeing you guys! Hope a trainer comes by and picks you all up!”
Lashes and her trainer stepped out of the lab into Pallet Town. While looking at his wrist as if he had a watch he bit his lip cognitively, “My mother should be at home doing mother things and my father should be at the shop doing shop things…” His eyes looked at the nearby exit of Pallet Town, Route 1, which led to Viridian City. Where the Rock badge awaited him. But Route 1 supposedly has wild pokemon (thoughts of ravenous and dangerous dinosaurs rampaging fields and eating humans cross his mind) and also trainers (images pop up of people telling the dinosaurs to eat the humans and then imagines Lashes lashing at them like crazy.) “Hrmmm… I believe in your power Lashes, but I want to be able to give you potions and other items. Hey don’t lift that paw I said I believe in your powers!...” he felt around in his pocket and grabbed the 50 gold pieces he was handed from his father. “Barely anything… good thing I got you Lashes or this birthday would have been terrible.” Lashes basked in her compliments and called out happily and licked his leg in appreciation. “The problem is…. My father would not dare sell me anything involving pokemon… he is…” he stopped there. If he said that his father hated pokemon, Lashes would have found a new scratching post. “Er… They are too expensive. Yes. I have an idea though… Follow me, my lovely Lashes.”
Jacob located the store easily in the tiny village and inspected it, “Now listen closely Lashes, I am going to burst in and attract a lot of attention and catch up with my father. What I want YOU to do, is to carry off items and then put them in this bag I have here,” he places a small pack in a bush discretely, “and then come back and get more until I leave. Is that clear soldier? Er I mean, Lashes?” The Eevee cocked its head in confusion for a moment like a dog, finding the situation to be rather morally lacking. Jacob knew how to manipulate the pure creature, “Trust me, this is not a good person we are stealing from… plus… don’t you think a pokemon of YOUR stature deserves such pleasantries?” Lashes eyes fluttered massively in delight. “I’ll take that as you understand. Good. Now let’s do this! Operation Hidden Lash!”
The new pokemon trainer barged in the glass door obnoxiously as the door nicked a bell hanging from the ceiling that let my father know someone came in, “Hello marvelous father of mine, how are you on this FINE day?” Lashes very regally stepped out through and started going the isles. Jacob walked up to the counter as his father looked up at him from looking at a magazine. The store was amazingly small and had very little business, considering the miniscule population. “Hello there uh, Jacob. I’m fine… business is booming today!” He was serious.
The young boy rested his elbows on the counter and slide to the side to block his vision of the isles. From the corner of his eyes he can see that his Eevee had no clue what to get. Jacob had forgotten to say. “Dangit…”
“What’s wrong?”
“Oh! Nothing nothing… except well…” he looked at the wall behind him. It was covered in keychains and random accessories. “What are the prices of all of these beautiful keychains?” His father spun on his heels and went into extravagant detail about the prices of each one and how cheap they are and expensive elsewhere they were, although in Pallet Town there really wasn’t an ‘elsewhere.’ Jacob turned slightly and looked at the clueless Lashes and started pointing desperately at the potions at the top shelf. Lashes looked at it mischievously and started climbing perilously atop the counters to the top and started to knock things over accidentally. He threw his hands up, “Oh my god Lashes what are you—“
“Oh you have problem with your lashes?” his father spun back around. “I guess you can use some make up… I mean, don’t tell anyone, but I fancy a little blush and lipstick every once and a while myself when I’m all alone ha ha.”
Jacob’s hands dropped, “Wait… what?” More things fell as Lashes bit a potion and turned to jump off, knocking off several more as Lashes began to waddle out the door without even bothering to check if she was being watched. “If you forget what you just saw, I’ll forget what I just heard.”
“Deal.”
*Back Outside*
“That went really…” Jacob rubbed his neck as he widened his eyes at Lashes’s happy and proud face. She thought she did superb. Jacob melted inside a little at the innocence and cuteness. “Went really well. You did so good! I am so proud of you! Whos the best Eevee! Who’s the best Eevee! Who’s—“ He gets kicked in the face. “Okay lets go wait around in Route 1 for everyone.”

Caterpie froze at the sight of the warm pie. Never had he smelled something that enticing. All he had ever known was the greens of the Viridian Forest and the occasional Vermillion flower treat. In fact, in the last few weeks, during his rehabilitation, he had started eating less and less, becoming increasingly more emaciated. The pie in front of him nearly brought him back to a time before all he knew was loss.
Having waited long enough, Caterpie scurried around the rim of the pie, and then drove his head into the flaky layer of crust. Inside it was warm and gooey, a filled with a sweet berries. Caterpie had never tasted anything like it. Unable to control his hunger he pressed himself deeper into the thick pie and splashed a barrage of debris into the air and onto his master’s lap.
Dylan thoroughly occupied in his own meal and stimulating conversation had not realized what was happening all over his lap. Caterpie quickly devoured the last morsel of pie and looked around the room. There was no more food in his vicinity. Panicking Caterpie scurried around the side of His master appeared on his shoulder covered in blue juices from the pie filling.
He looked at Dylan and screeched loudly wondering where the next part of his meal was. Dylan brushed him aside, still in deep conversation with his mother who was cooking in the next room. Annoyed by his new friends lack of interest Caterpie circled frantically around Dylan’s chest, before deciding to leap from his master to the table. Food was sent flying everywhere, as Dylan leaped in terror from his chair.
Caterpie quickly scanned the table and found another three pies sitting at the far end of the spread. Not wishing to get caught by his obviously frustrated trainer, Caterpie quickly scampered across the table and dived into a second pie burrowing a path from one to the next. The deserts were gone in mere seconds. Dylan finally got a hold of the sticky Caterpie, but the damage was done. The table was a wreck, and the ruckus had already attracted Mr. Husted back into the room. Caterpie looked at the woman’s face burning with rage, and tilted its face and let out a small innocent belch.

Kristen had finished talking to the professor about what a success today was when she noticed that the small, scrawny, odd boy was talking about traveling to be a pokemon trainer. She quickly thanked the professor for her new friend, and ran over to the boy she was sitting beside earlier. I guess this means I should probably make new friends if I'm going to try and travel with these guys. Kristen drew in a deep breath and released slowly. She was never one for making new friends, or even talking to strangers for that matter. She drew in another deep breath and shouted "Hey you! Wait up!" She started to jog to catch up with the boy with no name. "Hi! My name is Kristen. You were talking to that odd kid, weren't you? He was saying something about becoming a pokemon trainer?" She stammered out. The boy turned to her and smiled, "Hey there! My name is Miles. Yeah we're all meeting up at 8 tonight if you're interested," he replied. Kristen began to study the boys features as they were walking and talking. He had a very fit build, and everything about him seemed inviting. She began to blush a little as she said,"Yeah definitely! That sounds like it'll be a blast! Well I should probably get home and feed my Vulpix. I'm sure he's pretty hungry." She turned and looked at her small Vulpix that was sitting on Akamaru's back, and laughed. Man they are going to become inseperable, I can feel it she thought. They both stared up at her intensely and she bent down to pet both of them. She stood back up and turned to her acquaintance and said," Well I guess that settles it. I don't want to keep you, so I'm sure I'll see you later?" She smiled, and he smiled back. "Yeah definitely! See you then," he replied again. She could feel all the heat rushing to her face. Boy, was this guy cute. She turned to head back to her home and waved goodbye.
As she was walking back, she was thinking about what she was going to tell her father. Sure he'd be nervous about her traveling, but what she worried about the most was his thoughts about her not going to school. As she was walking along the dirt path that lead back to her house, she began kicking a pebble along. She bent down again to take off Akamaru's leash so that he and Vulpix could run around through the fields near by. As soon as she unclipped him, he immediately started chasing after Vulpix, barking and wagging his tail. Vulpix shrieked in a fit of joy, and took off full speed ahead. Kristen just laughed and shook her head. This is going to be a great trip and I can't wait to be traveling around the world catching pokemon with my two best buds, she thought to herself. "Hey you two! Don't get too far ahead of me!" They both turned around and sat on the path staring at her. Akamaru was panting and wagging his small tail ferociously. Vulpix was tugging on the poor dog's ear and growly ever so playfully. Kristen let out a cheerful sigh and shouted "Alright, here I come!" She tore off, running down the dirt path, feeling her feet beat against the dirt. As she came down the path, the two new best friends started running ahead of her.

Jacob and lashes, two partners in crime now, trotted off towards the entrance of Route 1, the sole land exit out of Pallet Town. No one from this town EVER used this, most of the trainers residing there being from the Viridian City at the other end. And of course, no one from the city ever visits this useless gathering of houses. The pokemon trainer, as he walked, sighed as he thought about the lack of treasure pulled from his little operation, but for to have accomplished that with a brand new pokemon must be able to make the Pokemon Guiness World Records or something.
When they reached the thin path that was the entryway to Route 1 that opened up to a vast land, they stopped to admire the spot that Jacob has admired from all his life. The area was wide and open with tall grass up to your knees and small ponds resting here and there. Flying pokemon littered the sky and movement tussled the lush grass with life and catchable creatures. Beyond some gates one could even see fellow trainers talking and messing with pokemon, and even one pair were battling off in the far distance.
“Wow… Isn’t it beautiful Lashes? Its like a brand new world was just a few yards from my boring home all my life… Am I right or am I…” he looked down at the little ball of fur and paused. The creature was in a defensive stance as she fluttered her eyes assertively at all the hustling and bustling life of Route 1. “What? Are you itching for some action? I am too my excited friend, I am too. But we have to wait for everyone to get to this spot. We just can’t rush off in there just yet… Wow I am really getting used to your scra—OW OW but not the bites holy shi… crap. Don’t look at me like that Lashes I wasn’t going to say it! No I swear! I mean I don't! Oh you know what I mea-- Ow ow ow!”

Miles left the lab with a new since of accomplishment. Him and Ghastly were about to embark on a new quest with a new group of friends that was sure to be filled with new and exciting experiences for all. He need to make his way up to Dylan’s before it got too late, but he wanted to make a quick stop over at the store to grab a few things that Ghastly might need in the future.
He jogged over the Pallet Town Marker with Ghastly floating close behind to pick up some stuff, as he neared it he took off his backpack to grab his bag of coins. He was glad he remembered to empty out his bank account up at school before he left. He had a whole 150 gp to spend on his new pokemon!
As he walked through the shops doors he saw what must have been the owner cleaning up a bunch of items that must have been knocked over by the last customer.
“Hey there! My names Miles, and I’m a new pokemon trainer. I was wondering if you had any items that would help me get start.” Miles said once he finally got the shop owners attention.
“Hello there Miles, is that a Ghastly you got there? Oh yes well here is a list of all the items related to pokemon we sell here.” He said as he handed Miles a list that read:
Antidote-10gp Awakening-10gp Burn Heal-10gp Water-5gp Full Heal- 45gp Revive-60gp Potion-25pg
After reading the list he thought it over carefully, and said “Okay, I’ll take 2 potions, 1 antidote, 1 awakening, 1 burn heal, and a water please. I believe that totals: 80gp.”
“Alright, I’ll get your items together. Would you like a bag?”
“Nah, I can just put it all in my pack”, said Miles as he placed each item in his pack. Leaving his water out figuring he’d get thirsty while walking to Dylan’s.
Miles thanked the shop own, and then was on his way. Ghastly started to look tired so he pulled out his pokeball, and asked him if he would like to rest inside until they got there. Ghastly yawned, so Miles tapped the button on the pokeball causing a red beam to shoot out and connect with the ghost pokemon taking him into the ball.
“Sleep well my ghostly friend”, Miles said as he slipped the ball into his pack.
He continued on his way, and made good time arriving at the address on the card around 7. Giving him just enough time to eat, and see if Dylan wanted to come with him on his journey. He knocked on the door, and was greeted by a pie covered Dylan.

All Dylan could do was shake his head. Miles couldn't have showed up a better time. He had just gotten his first glimpse of how Dylan and Caterpie's relationship was going to be. "What can I say, he likes pie," Dylan mumbled. "I'll be right back." He darted upstairs out of Caterpie and Miles' sight.
Miles was standing in the doorway when he heard, "You must be Miles. So nice to meet you. I'm Dylan's mom." Ms. Husted reached out her hand to shake Miles'. "So, Dylan tells me that you are also a trainer. What type of Pokemon did you happen to choose?"
Responding to the question, Miles grapped the Pokeball out of his bag, tapped on it, and Ghastly made an appearance for Ms. Husted. It was only a short stay though, for he retreated immediately back to his cozy ball to get some more rest. The next thing Miles knew, Dylan was darting back down the stairs with fresh shorts on.
"Alright ma, I'll try to send you letters letting you know how I am. I am going to try and catch a Pidgey or something of that sorts to deliver them. I love you and I'll be home soon." Dylan kissed his mother on the cheek and hurriedly rushed all of his new friends out the door. The excitement was too much for him to handle now.
Dylan slipped his shoes on once again, lifted Caterpie onto his shoulder, and looked to Miles to follow. "Hey, Dylan," Miles shouted. As Dylan turned around he was almost hit in the head with a Pokeball. "Sorry man, I didn't mean to try and capture you! But you forgot that at Oak's Lab! It could come in handy." Miles gave him a friendly smile and nod, and Dylan returned the both of them.
It didn't take them that much of time to flag down a bus. It was the same driver as before, and he gave all of them the same treatment. "They sure do now how to treat trainers in Viridian, man," whispered Miles. Caterpie began to make noises as if he was in extreme agony. Dylan slowly pulled a foil wrapped plate out of his bag and revealed another pie. He slowly began to break if off in small bits and set it on his already stained shirt. Caterpie gobbled it right up. Miles chuckled at this sight and said, "Now that is what I call health food."
"So, Miles, I think we are here." Dylan had just seen a road sign that read, "Route 1: Pallet Exit." The two boys got off of the bus, and looked up and down the road. Miles pulled the ball out again and let Ghastly out. Caterpie was sitting on Dylan's shoulder, shooting String Shot at some of the gnats that were flying in the air. Miles pointed down the road, and Dylan peered in the direction of his outstretched finger. The strange looking younger trainer was standing over at the start of Route 1, with his cute little Eevee clawing at his legs. Timidly, the young trainer waved to Miles and Dylan, and they politely waved back.
Dylan was now ready to start his life. No school, no parents, and no job. Just friends, Pokefriends, and grand adventures lay before him. He knew this was his destiny!!!

Jacob and Lashes both were immensely impatient, merely an hour or so having passed by and his outburst upon seeing people finally arriving at the exit from Pallet Town and entrance to Route 1 was, “Me and my pokemon have been waiting for days!” Lashes fluttered in agreement as she said her pokemon name aggressively. “Yeah, good point Lashes! I hope you have excuses! Well yeah!? I don’t care!” Before Lashes could lash, a kind and well timed call came from behind them. It was Professor Oak running towards them.
“Oh ho ho!” he said between huffing and puffing as he stopped next to everyone. “I wanted to see you guys off on your adventure and say my final goodbyes to my dearest pokemon. They are all very strong, and more importantly,” he looked at a pie covered Caterpie, “Er… I can’t remember what I was going to say. Anyhow, two things. First off, my grandson is already rushing off through Route 1 and working on getting his badge as well. He wants to become a pokemon master like many of you do. Please watch out for him for me.” Everyone denies. “Thanks everyone. But more importantly…” he reaches in his lab coat pocket and pulls out some make up from Jacob’s father’s store, “Wait wait that’s my wife’s! Hold on one second… here it is.” He then pulls out a red device, not even mentioning that his wife was long dead. “This my young adventurers, is a pokedex. This can be used to identify every pokemon in existence. And it even gives a little bit of info. Its expensive technology, and it was my grandson’s gift but he thought he was too good for it so… I thought I’d lend it to one of you. Here Dylan, I choose you.” He hands the pokedex to him, “The least I can do for you choosing the Caterpie.” His face is then covered in string. “I think that’s my cue to leave. Good luck trainers! … cough cough! Nasty…”
Jacob then spun on his heels and raised his fist, “Now everyone! Follooooooww…..MEEEEE!!!” He then began to charge in the field along with Lashes, who had a huge lead and immediately jumped into the tall shaking grass. “L-Lashes?! Oh no my poor baby! Don’t hide I have no clue if you’re okay I feel like a parent letting my child out of the house! Well I won’t allow it! Laaaasheeees!”
Route 1 was long and simplistic, with short trees all sorts and types. Beautiful ones and even some weird looking ones. In the sky Pidgeys and Starlys and the more fierce Sparrows sailed through the sky in colonies. A psyduck walked around in circles next to a pond, apparently heavily confused. A gathering of normal type pokemon was near the entrance, happily talking to each other in poketalk, consisting of a Snubbull, a buneary, a Skitty, and a Sentret. Tall grass shook around filled with Ekans and Bidoofs and Zigzagoons, hiding from greedy new trainers. Pokemon trainers and traders were talking about interesting pokemon they have seen in this very place that they were trying to catch, and they were also complaining about a wild Doduo running around with amazing speed. They were also complaining about near the exit to Veridean City, a pokemon was singing constantly and preventing people from passing through for they were falling asleep upon hearing its voice.
Jacob finally tripped into the grass and fell into an opening. Lashes was laying low like a lion or tiger awaiting its prey, her tiny fuzzy face resting on her front paws as she stalked. “What’re you looking at Lashes?” Completely forgetting the earlier outbursts, he crawled forward next to her and peered through the grass. It was a pair yellow little rat pokemon, however, they weren’t pikachus, they were red and blue. A Plusle and a Minun. “Lashes… you have good eyes.” Her eyes fluttered.

Caterpie rested his head on the neck of his young trainer; his belly was full from fiasco at Dylan’s house. They walked for awhile into the wilds, the energetic boy and his Eevee leading the way. Dylan fiddled with a little Red device that made a series of beeps and whirs. The repetition was soothing to Caterpie. He had almost dozed off when Dylan came to an abrupt stop and began to speak.
“Alright lil’ buddy here we are,” Dylan held his hand-held device up to the drowsy Caterpie. “See that picture? It’s called a Bidoof. We need to find one of them. It says they can be found near water sources.”
Dylan lifted his head to listen, Caterpie confused followed suit and lifted his head turning his head when his companion did. The sound of rushing water could be heard somewhere to the North East of where they stood. “Alright, Caterpie, lead the way,” Dylan said kneeling to the ground to beckon his green friend to the ground.
Caterpie reluctantly agreed scurrying to the dirt strewn path squealing with dissatisfaction over the interruption to his nap. Dylan motioned Caterpie forward. Caterpie listened and scurried for about ten feet before realizing he had truly eaten more than his body weight could handle. He turned and whimpered, begging Dylan to let him back up. Dylan smiled but shook his head. Caterpie tried one more thing and lifted his body up rubbing his stomach with his small hands and then falling backward as if acting dead.
Dylan laughed but knew he had to motivate his little Pokémon if he was to get anywhere as a trainer, “Come on little guy, if you do this maybe we can get some Pie when we get to Viridian City again?”

Kristen was running out of breath. She had been running late because she wanted to make sure she had packed enough things for her pokemon and her dog, let alone herself. When she had gotten home, she had told her father everything; where she wanted her first stop to be, what kind of pokemon she just got and that she wouldn't be in school this semester. Her father had looked at her with sad eyes and what had seemed almost like disappointment. Not because she wouldn't be returning to school in the fall, but because she had very little supplies to work with on her journey.
"What does Akamaru think of your new pal," he had asked with a smirk acrossed his face. As soon as Akamaru's name had past his lips, he came flying down the stairs chasing and barking at the squealing Vulpix. Before they could run past her, she dipped down and picked up her Vulpix as it was growling down at the yapping pup. "Dad, this is my Vulpix," she said with the biggest grin on her face. "I think if you truly loved your pokemon, you should give him a proper name," he said crossing his arms. Kristen lifted the small Vulpix who was swatting playfully at her face. She laughed and stared at her little friend. "Hmmm... What can I name you," she said over and over in her head. "How about Kitsune," she said out loud addressing the playful Vulpix. "Vuuullllpixxxx", he replied with a little smile. His cute, fluffy tails began waving back and forth and she hugged him. "Vuuuuuul" he began saying, and she quickly replied, "I know, I know. You want down. Typical hotheaded little fire pokemon."
She said as Kitsune started to jump all over Akamaru. "Dad, could you possibly pack me some rice balls, and while you're at it, possibly feed these two?" Kitsune stopped and looked up at Kristen, and began rubbing himself all over Kristen like a cat. Yeah he's definitely hungry, she thought. Her father got up and started walking to the kitchen. "C'mon you two if you're hungry, follow me." he said taking a great stride looking very prideful. As he was walking, the two lined up behind him like a marching band, mimicking his prideful walk. Kristen tried to hold back her laughter.
She quickly ran upstairs to grab her knapsack and filled it with everything she thought that she might need, such as extra pokeballs and potions to heal Kitsune if they were ever going to battle. She shut her door to her room and went downstairs. Kitsune was propped up against the side of the couch rubbing his belly, while Akamaru was laying on his back whimpering like he was going to explode at anytime. Kristen began howling in hysteria at the sight, so much that she began to tear. "Thanks Dad. Boy are they going to be unhappy when I tell them that they have to walk for a little," she whispered so that they both wouldn't hear her. She too grabbed something to eat to keep her stomach filled for the rest of the day. As time passed she knew that if she left any later, she'd be late with catching up with the group. But Akamaru and Kitsune didn't seem to want to get up. "C'mon you guys! We're going to be late! Kitsune you can return to your pokeball, and Akamaru you can stay in the knapsack if you two don't feel like walking. But we have to go NOW," she shouted. Both of them jumped up, and quickly ran to the door. That's more like it, she thought. She quickly laced up her shoes, kissed her father goodbye, and said she'd write home whenever she could.
Now here she was sprinting along the road to try and catch up with the group. She took the bus but it only made her more late because Akamaru was frightened by the loud noise it produced. She saw two boys up ahead, and she could tell that the one was the one kid she had talked to earlier. She finally caught up with them and tried to catch her breath as she said,"Hey guys! Sorry I'm late." The boy that had chosen the caterpie had stared at her blankly and so did the caterpie resting on his shoulder. She couldn't help but laugh to herself that those two were already so much alike. She introduced herself to the boy with the caterpie," Hey. I'm Kristen. Cute pokemon you've chosen! Your name is?"

A bunch of bird pokemon passed overhead saying their names proudly as they ruled the cloudless sky up above the lively Route 1, but all of that was now gone to Jacob and Lashes. They had caught sight of their prey, and they were determined to sing their teeth in. The Plusle and the Minun were holding each other’s hands in happiness as they bounced around sending off small sparks from their bodies all around themselves without any knowledge they were being watched. Jacob and Lashes both fluttered their eyes at the display. “This is going to be difficult…” the boy whispered. “These things are smart… it’s like their in our minds! They are setting off those charges because they know you can’t lash at them. They’re afraid of that… Darn things are pretending we aren’t here.” Lashes shook with anger and intimidation as his antics sounded truthful to her. “But you’re better than that, aren’t you Lashes? Here is what you’re going to do…” he scooted even closer and whispered in Lashes ear. Her eyes narrowed with intenseness. A pokebattle was about to begin.
The Plusle and Minun continued to bounce around excitedly, living the wonderful life of the wild, without rules or a master. It almost made Jacob feel wrong. Almost. The young boy was still nestled in his spot as he watched carefully, but Lashes was gone. “Operation Rat Extermination…” he whispered and snickered at his own corniness. As he waited very quietly, he finally saw a brown flash of fur shine through some of the tall grass on the exact opposite end of the Plusle and Minun from Jacob. “Step one… distraction!” Jacob then stood up and started yelling like a banshee, his voice cracking and the sound rather quiet, for his voice was low and quiet. His arms waved about madly and floppily, “Look over here wild pokemon! Over here over here over here!” The Plusle and Minun stopped dancing and shooting sparks as they turned over and looked at him with extremely confused expressions before they exchanged glances. The wild trainer grinned at the wild pokemon and whispered under his breath, “Heheh… it worked. Now for Lashes to make her surprise attack.” As he said it, the small little creature leaped into the air several yards up above the clueless pair of rat pokemon with the look that would scare off a Gyarados.
“Mew?” a small cute voice rang by the boys ear, coming from a small floating pink pokemon with a long tail and huge sparkling eyes.
Jacob swiped at his shoulders in annoyance with his eyes locked on the airborne Eevee, “Not now Mew I am in the middle of a battle! Wait a second… Mew?!” He looked behind him and the creature was gone. “What… Did I just imagine that?” He turned back towards the pokemon battle. “I BETTER be imagining this!” Lashes was now rolling around and playing with the rambunctious pair of electric pokemon. “Lashes! You traitor! You’re supposed to be murdering them not having fun!” Then immediately all three of them froze their playful wrestling match and looked at him with large tearful eyes as they all prepared to wail and cry. “Awww…” Jacob immediately began to falter under their trap, “I’m sorry… go ahead and play… I can’t deny you Lashes.” She flutters her eyes as they all smile like nothing happened. “But I hope you have enough room for another pokemon.” They all looked at him with confusion. “Me! Body slam attack!” He leaped on top of them laughing as they rolled around joyously, the pokemons singing their names in their own form of laughing.

To Dylan, it was almost comical to watch his dear Caterpie trudge on with a full belly. Like the guy always says, "What won't kill you, only makes you stronger." He had high hopes for Caterpie. The little bug wasn't the strongest, nor did he have the best skill set in combat, but like Professor Oak said, he has heart.
"You see anything yet little guy," Dylan asked as the two of them were still hiking towards the sound of the water. "What if we do find a Bidoof," Dylan said to himself. "Should I try to use my Pokeball on it? Or should I just have Caterpie train up on it?"
The smell of grass and weeds was a sweet feeling on their noses, and before long, they finally caught a glimpse of a rather wide and fast flowing creek. Dylan crouched down onto his hands and knees while Caterpie tried to mimic him by flattening out his long body and laying closer to the ground. The two of them scanned up and down the creek, and then Caterpie let out a quiet screech. The green worm then began to roll around in the ground to catch Dylan's attention. When Dylan finally looked over, Caterpie nodded his head in the direction of a bend in the creek.
"Good job, boy. You found a nest!" A round looking home made of sticks was built right next to the creek, and two Bidoofs were walking around outside it. About twenty yards away from them, a lone Bidoof was gnawing on a piece of drift wood. Perfect, Dylan thought to himself. A plan popped into his head and he executed the first step immediately. The trainer, who was still trying to be stealthy on his hands and knees reached for a throwing stone. He grabbed it and then through it in the direction of the two Bidoofs by the nest. It splashed in the water just behind them, and the two Pokemon ran into their nest out of fear of a predator.
"Alright Caterpie, here's our chance. This is what I want you to do. I am going to throw a bit of Pie out towards that lone Bidoof over there. When he takes the bait, which I hope he does, I want you to String Shot him to get him tangled. Then whenever he appears to be off balance, you're then gonna charge him and knock him on his butt. Finally, when he is down, I am going to try and capture him with this ball." Dylan pulled his extra Pokeball out of his bag, and then looked towards Caterpie. Surprisingly, it appeared that his little friend had understood. "Now, let's do this on the count of three. That is however, if you don't mind. But if you have no objections, here we go."
"One..." Dylan was having trouble saying it steadily. "Two..... Thr," Dylan was caught off by a joyous Caterpie, who had just realized what Dylan had thrown as bait. He was heading straight for the bit Pie. "Well my friend, I hope you still remember the plan, look out!!!!!" Dylan screamed as the Bidoof had unexpectedly charged and leapt onto the Pie, seconds before Caterpie had reached the spot. Caterpie reeled back, and appeared to ready himself for a defense.

Caterpie was furious. His friend had taken some of his precious food and tossed it to the ground like it was nothing but refuse. Ignoring the words Dylan had told him, Caterpie immediately charged out into the open, hell bent on retrieving his precious prize. But before he could reach the tasty morsel of food, a funny looking furry creature pounced on it yelping “Bidoof, Bidoof, Bidoof” exclamatorily.
Caterpie hit the brakes and slid four feet before coming to a horrified stop. His treasure; the gift his new friend had promised to him was now in the jaws of another Pokémon. Caterpie felt betrayed, yet knew his behavior had not been all that tolerable lately. He blamed himself for his master’s sudden desire for a new Pokémon.
Caterpie was not ready to pack up and leave his new friend though. He had finally found another person willing to put up with his shenanigans; a person trustworthy enough to fall asleep near. He didn’t even feel that comfortable around the forgetful Professor Oak. Caterpie decided it was time he stepped up. He would show this usurper that he was Dylan’s best friend and only companion. Not to mention, he couldn’t let this funny looking being finish his entire snack.
The furry animal was thoroughly occupied with the pie as it shoved its two buck teeth into the sweet and succulent desert. Caterpie had watched long enough. Mustering all of his strength, Caterpie reared his head back and snapped it forward releasing a strong line of silky string. Before the Pokémon knew what was happening he was plastered with a mass of sticky silk.
The creature tried to shake loose but was unable to wipe all of the sticky thread from his face, leaving Caterpie with a great opportunity to catch him off guard. Squealing harshly Caterpie charged forward ducking his head and just before he reached his opponent leaped into the air striking the funny looking character directly in the gut. Caterpie bounced back to the earth, his pie still edible in front of him. In contrast, the creature he attacked rolled head over heels backward three times before landing on its haunches, his hands swaying nonchalantly between his legs, as it tried to recover from its stunned glaze.
Caterpie shook off the dizziness from his tackle attack and readied himself, taking a second to quickly rejuvenate. Turning his head to the side Caterpie peeked backwards to see what his master’s status was. Caterpie wanted nothing else than to please his only friend in the world; even if it meant fighting this innocent creature of the wild – a creature no different than he was when he was younger.

Eventually after the four, Jacob, Lashes, Plusle, and Minun, wrestled around on the bit and got covered in grass stains and dirt, they took a breather upon a rock nearby as they watched some of the trainers talk and mess with their own pokemon, and even a pair that were battling out with a Fearow and a Turtwig. The brown feathered Spearow with its massive wings was battling from in the air as it dodged razor leaves being shot in the sky after it and then swooping down and buffeting with the small turtle pokemon with strong gusts of wind that send the grass type flying into the air. Jacob slouched and tried to hide from their sight, anxiety building up from one of them coming over to converse. Lashes actually rested on Jacob’s lap, getting more close to her trainer due to the fun they were having together just moments ago. ‘This won’t last though,’ Jacob mused in his thoughts as he pet the tired pokemon gently. Plusle and Minun were staring at the battles and humans with fear of the unknown. “Ah that’s right, you are both wild pokemon… You haven’t come across trainers before? Well here, I’ll feed you some knowledge little fellas.” Jacob reached for his belt as the two rat pokemon looked over with mild interest. He pulled out his empty unused pokeball and held it out in front of them like it was fire and the pokemon were cavemen, “Behold! The weap—Er I mean tool of all the pokemon trainers of the world! The one and only… Pokeball!” Both Plusle and Minun said their names in a gasp. “Yes I know right? But its more than just a fancy looking ball, it’s the greatest and most advanced piece of technology on the planet. Or at least I think it’s the coolest. Anyhow, these are what are used to ensla—I mean capture wild pokemon from their free and lovely lives and take them away from homes so they can replace their old family with us and be used to battle others upon our command until someone gets knocked out. Isn’t it wonderful!?” The two pokemon looked at each other for a moment and then nodded as they grinned evily. “Wow I didn’t know you cute little guys could make such a mean face. What’re you two do—“ The two pokemon leaped up and Minun snatched the pokeball from his grasp while Plusle bounced off his head sending him falling off the rock and toppling the slumbering Lashes onto the ground awaking her from her beauty sleep.
“EeeeeeVEE!” Lashes growled as she pounced onto her feet and landing on her feet like a cat and looked directly at Jacob assuming he was the culprit.
“Ohhh no it wasn’t me! Oh please we were doing so well for a moment there don’t you—YEOUCH!” Jacob rubbed his now multitude of scratch marks that were added to his already previous ones. “The REAL culprits are running away, and with my pokeball! We have to get it back Lashes! You are the only one fast enough to catch them!” The young trainer looked back at the running rats, the Minun holding the ball above its head as Plusle followed close behind. “Operation Stop-those-Pikachu-wannabes!” They took off running after them as they headed straight towards the trainers. “Oh no… this can’t be good. Watch out Lashes! Not that you need to of course!” Minun and Plusle jumped over the still locked in battle Turtwig that was still trying to use razor leaf to hit the airborne colossal bird. Lashes jumped on top of the green tortoise and bounced off of it causing it to redirect its flying leaves to fly straight into Jacob cutting into his body as the trainers screamed out things that their mothers would be ashamed of. “Ow ow ow why is being a pokemon trainer so painful; this wasn’t in the handbook!” As he shielded his face and eyes he tripped over the turtle but never hit the ground. “Is it over? Did I die?” Jacob lowered his hands and saw the ground disappearing beneath him, the running pokemon now tiny scurrying ants. He looked up above and Fearow was carrying him into the air, and its large peak and mean eyes lowered down on him, “No please don’t kill me I’m not a Turtwig I’m not a Turtwig! You got the wrong—“ the Fearow suddenly let go of him, “PEEERSSOOONNN!!!” He fell and fell and then suddenly hit a lake of water like a ton of bricks, splashing torrents of water on a nearby string shotted Bidoof and an angry familiar Caterpie. And on some pie.
Normally he would have resurfaced but Jacob in fact didn’t know how to swim and was splashing around on the water like crazy. “Help! Help! Help! I’m drowning! Help!” He then plummeted under the water as bubbles rose to the surface. Dozens and dozens of Magikarp and Goldeens swam away at the thrashing and swirling young boy, thinking it was some sort of murderous and stupid pokemon called Drownikarp. Lashes stopped chasing after the two rats after seeing this and called out to the two running pokemon desperately as she rushed off to the lake and stared at the water in fear and out of frustration and then dived into the water quickly trying to swim under and bite his shirt to ift him but was too small and weak but never gave up on trying to tug him to the surface. The Plusle and Minun came by and stared at the water, scared to touch it because of their electricity type.
“Plusle!”
“Minun!”

The battle was unfolding in front of Dylan's eyes at an unbelievable pace. He hadn't known that Caterpie could move so quick. Sadness swept through Dylan as he realized that Caterpie's love for Pie had caused him to act, rather than his orders. "Well, I guess whatever works, works. Some souls just don't respond well to oral instruction...they need.....physical catalysts."
The Bidoof had nearly fainted due to his surprise that such a meager Pokemon had tangled him up. Just when the Bidoof thought that he was as embarrassed as possible, he was knocked onto his back by the Caterpie.
Caterpie looked back to Dylan, who was firmly grasping his Pokeball in his hand, for his new orders. Dylan was just about to yell for Caterpie to tie down the Bidoof with more silk so that it would be an easy capture. But just before he was able to open his mouth, he saw a huge splash in the lake that was at the end of the creek. He squinted his eyes, and scanned the scene. Adrenaline shot through his body when he saw human hands flailing in the water.
"Caterpie! Forget the Bidoof, we need to move!" Dylan ran over to the eager worm and snatched him up off the ground. He had ran two steps before he turned around. The poor Bidoof couldn't just lay there. Dylan pulled out a pocket knife and carefully but quickly cut the silk away from the Bidoof. The newly happy Pokemon let out a cheerful, "Bidoof!"
Once again, Dylan turned and sprinted for the lake. Caterpie was shrieking at the top of his lunges, as though he was on some sort of amusement park ride. A large fallen tree was in the path of Dylan ,but it didn't impede his progress. With one swift shot of silk towards a high branch, Caterpie formed a rope swing for Dylan to launch himself over the hurdle. "Thanks Caterpie!!!"
The duo finally reached the lake and were in shock when they realized what was happening. Jacob had somehow landed himself just in the start of the deep section of the lake, and it appeared that he couldn't swim. He was waving his arms and letting out shouts when he was able to.
"Quick Caterpie, we need to do something!" Dylan was panicking, for he couldn't swim either.
All of a sudden, Caterpie began to spin an enormous amount of silk from his head. Not only that, but he was shooting it just far enough for Jacob to reach. Dylan grabbed the line, and began to wade out into the shallows of the water. Slowly but surely he was working his way closer to Jacob. The water was up to his neck and he knew he couldn't go any further. "Jacob, reach towards me and then grab the water! There should be a rope for you to grab onto," Dylan screamed at the top of his breath.
In some sort of miracle, Jacob must have heard him, because he reached out towards Dylan and then grasped the silken rope. Jacob began to kick and flail in the direction of Caterpie and Dylan which meant he was slowly moving there way. Finally, Jacob was within and reaching distance and Dylan reached out and grasped him by his back pack strap.
"Where's Eeevee," Dylan shouted but then realized she was clung onto Jacob's back pack. The look on her face was one of complete worry for her trainer. Dylan pulled Jacob far enough in so that his feet could reach the bottom. The two of them began to walk back towards the shore. When they reached it, they just spun around and flopped on their backs. "I hope you brought dry clothes, Dylan," Jacob laughed.
When the two's heartbeats had returned to a steady pace, they turned to look at Caterpie. "You sure do have alot of uses for that silk, don't you?" Dylan was proud to ask the question of an even more proud Caterpie. Caterpie then shouted in a demanding tone. "Piiiiiii!!!"
"What's that little guy, you want some pie? Well when we get the chance I will treat you to as much as you want. You just saved one of my friend's lives."
Dylan couldn't help but laugh when after long last, Lashes came sprinting towards Jacob. "Oh please, not again LashAAAAAAAHHHH!" The Eevee launched himself onto Jacob's chest and began to lick his face. It was the perfect scene. Jacob and Lashes seemed to already be forming that bond that Oak was talking about. And in an almost jealous manner, Caterpie crawled onto Dylan's lap, curled up, and joined in watching the youngest trainer and his best friend play.

Caterpie was successful in saving the frail boy and his rambunctious partner. Though Dylan expressed his gratitude to the little green Pokémon, Caterpie still dropped his round head seeing his only friend lying on the ground. Turning around he looked at the pair of furry creatures scampering away. His only chance to prove himself was fleeing from the scene. Looking back at Dylan talking to the young boy he could see a slight hint of disappointment in his eyes.
In two battle’s Dylan was foiled by Caterpie’s inept ability. Two times Caterpie had failed the only human he had ever been able to call friend. Caterpie, even in his moment of great victory felt deeply ashamed. He had let down someone else, images of his fallen friends from the colony flashed in his head.
Caterpie turned from Dylan and began to scurry away whimpering to himself. Maybe it was better of he was left on the side of the road months ago. He wouldn’t be a bother any longer. Caterpie stopped, looked back once, and then lowered his head. As he walked past the last piece of his friend’s gift, he devoured it covering his face and lower torso in the gooey blue filling. Without looking back Caterpie scurried on into the tall grass heading in no particular direction, keeping the sun to his right. Trying to keep his mind from drifting onto the face of his only…former…friend, Caterpie squealed a sad tune to himself.

Jacob was laughing and smiling greatly as he held his tiny furry Eevee that was absolutely drenched, even when her eyes fluttered it rained drops of water down on him. But he didn’t care, he was entirely soaked too. “Lashes, you tried to save my life before! And you were so brave and you were so close to being strong enough to do it! That was absolutely amazing Lashes… I can’t believe you’d do that for me… You put yourself in grave danger…” Lashes stopped him from going any further when she licked some water trickling down his cheek tickling him.
“Ha ha, wow Lashes. You amaze me you really do. I’d do the same for you without a second though, and I only known you for less than a day. I wouldn’t be kidding if I said you were the best thing to ever happen in my life, Lashes.” She beamed with delight at the statement and nuzzled into his chest tiredly to rest. ‘She is being so tame… Why didn’t I get lashed yet? This probably won’t last,’ he mused in his head with a smile as he pet her soft head genty. That is when the Plusle and the Minun came rushing by and stopped in front of the razor leafed, drowned, and scratched in the face trainer. Plusle said frowned as Minun stepped forward holding up the pokeball. “You want to give it back to me? Even though I told you all those things about it and that you fear it?” The look in their eyes said it all.
“So you see now… That a trainer doesn’t love to have their pokemon, they just love their pokemon. Like how I love Lashes and how she loves me back. The pokeball is not a sign of enslavement… no… it’s a physical embodiment of your bond with the trainer. Maybe one day you two will be like Lashes, and a very lucky trainer will be caring for you both dearly and willing to do anything for you, and you’d want to do the same for them. I don’t understand how you took it so badly when I explained the pokeball so delicately to you two earlier. Silly little fuzz balls.” Both the pokemon looked at each other dubiously. Jacob began to reach for the pokeball but then hesitated before putting a finger to his lips intuitively. “Hmmm… You know what. You keep that pokeball, my children.” The two rats widened their eyes in surprise, either from the denial of the pokeball or being called his children. “I want you both to keep onto it. Not only to remember me, and not to keep onto it… I am giving it to you so you can one day give it up. Both of you live wild and free right now. But one day you might see a trainer that you will just know deep in your hearts that he or she is the one, and you present this pokeball to them. Show them the bond and devotion and if you chose right… they will give it back to you two tenfold and you’ll never want to leave that trainer’s side ever again… Thank you Plusle. Minun. You have taught me a little bit more on how to be a pokemon trainer… and also a good human being. You are both strong hearted pokemon and wonderful pokemon.”
The two electric pokemon looked at each other with a growing smile. Minun tossed the pokeball behind it and they both jumped on top of Jacob and all three of the pokemon snuggled into him lovingly. “Awww… you guys all are so cute. I love you both as well and— AHHHHHH!!! Plusle! Minun!” The two electric pokemon were shooting sparks from their cheeks like they do when they get emotional causing Lashes and Jacob to be zapped. It took almost a minute for them to realize what just happened and they leaped back to the ground and rubbed their little yellow heads apologetically. “Ha ha, it’s okay you too. Now go on you two, go and have some fun and remember what I told you!” Plusle grabbed the pokeball with its ears and began running off with it as Minun happily chased after the other trying to get it back, playing like they were before they had met Jacob.
“Eevee.” Jacob looked over at Lashes and started busting out laughing. Lashes was a giant poofy ball of fur that was smoking a little from being electrocuted. Jacob was then immediately slashed across the face, but when Jacob lifted his hand to his cheek he didn’t complain or look in pain. He only smiled.
“I wouldn’t change a thing about you, Lashes,” he stated as he started grooming the poor creature. “I don’t need that pokeball, all I need is you. I want to make you feel more at home before I even consider thinking about giving you a friend yet. I am sorry I thought so wrongly before. I thought not to spoil you, but now I realize… why not spoil the ones you love?” The Eevee fluttered her eyes as she rested her head on him once more and closed her eyes exhaustedly, a pleased smile frozen on her face. She then began snoring so loudly that a Snorlax would be proud. “If that’s not precious I don’t know what is.” He then stood up and stretched carefully to not wake up the creature in his arms before walking off, but then he stopped. He can’t just keep running from these other trainers. Especially now. Jacob turned to Dylan and Caterpie and smiled warmly, “Thank you Dylan, for not only saving my life but the life of my best friend. I never really properly introduced myself… I apologize, I can be kind of rude. My name is Jacob, and this here is my Lashes. You have a wonderful pokemon, wherever that thing is. That creature is living and crawling and string shooting and pie eating proof that a pokemon’s strength is not in its abilities or size, but the power of its heart. He has taught me that, and I want you to thank him for me. And also, sorry for all that antics… Those trainers over there gave me a run for my money.”
