Blinky slowly shook himself awake as the pain from sleeping against the gym swept through his back. As he stood up and stretched, he saw three figures walking toward him. He soon realized he had seen them before, at Professor Oak's lab. It was time to introduce himself, after quickly running off last time. Blinky knew he wasn't going to get far without some good friends to back him up. He was king of screwing up first impressions, so now it was game time.
"Hey guys, I'm Blinky, well Nick actually, but no one calls me that". Blinky flinched, but then he noticed he didn't say anything stupid. "Hey I'm Dylan" the kid Blinky recognized introduced himself first. "How's your hero Caterpie? I can't stand Gary, that made my day" Blinky said, as he let his Squirtle out of his ball.
"Hmmm, I should really give you a nickname, but I can't really think of one... how about Squirt?" Squirlte shook his head no. "Tim?" Squirtle raised one eyebrow in confusion. "I know! Blue!" Squirtle shrugged his shoulders, apparently giving up and aceepting the least idiotic name. Since he couldn't speak english, Blinky would never know his real name was Alfonso, so Blue would have to do. "Squirtle" he replied, then ventured over to meet the other trainers.
Blinky watched as Blue checked out the scarred Pikachu, who was a new addition since Blinky left. "Where'd you get the Pikachu at?" Blinky asked. "I caught him on route 1" the trainer who owned the Eevee replied. "I'm Jacob by the way" the boy said. "Oh cool I didn't catch your name. Or your's either" Blinky said to the boy who got the Ghastly at Oak's lab. "I'm Miles, nice to meet you" he said, as he extended his hand. Blinky shook it, and felt a little more relaxed now that he met everyone.
"Well, I don't really have much money, so there's no point in staying here, and I really want to catch some pokemon and get to Pewter city to get the Boulderbadge. What'd you say we head to Viridian forest and start adventuring?" Blinky asked this as he walked toward the forest. The others looked at each other, then saw Blinky and Blue ahead of them, and took off to catch up as they headed to the Viridian Forest.

Miles had found a new comrade in arms, Blinky. He had a feeling that Dylan, him, and Blinky were going to be do great things with each other’s help. Nothing could stand in the way of the three new trainers if they stuck together, and relied on each other’s help when things started to look grim. Miles was beginning to piece together a plan for himself. He was going to become a very specific type of pokemon trainer. He decided he was going to stop by the pokecenter and the pokemart before they continued onward in their quest to become pokemon masters.
He needed to visit the pokecenter to make sure his two pokemon were in perfect health. On his way in he passed Jacob starring off into space right outside the door, but when Miles tried to say hello it was as if he couldn’t hear him. Not sure how to feel about this Miles walked confusedly into the pokecenter to see tons of pokemon and their trainers inside. It seemed that most of the pokemon had very similar scares to that of Dylan’s playfully green companion Caterpie.
Miles got a terrible feeling about this. Someone was out there harming pokemon for what seemed like nothing more than for the sport of it. It was disgusting to even think about, and left a bitter taste on the back of his tongue. Still considering what this meant Miles walked up to the counter and rung the small bell next to a computer. After a minute or two a nurse with a worried look on her face showed up.
“Hello there, my names nurse Joy. I’m sorry we’re so busy, but is there anything I can do for you?” said the tired looking nurse Joy.
“Hey, ummm yeah I can see you’ve got your hands full. Could you please look over my pokemon real quick though? I’ll get out of your way as soon as you’re done,” Miles said trying to sound as nice as possible. He felt terrible adding another burden onto her shoulders, but to him his own pokemon came first. After saying his thanks, and a quick goodbye to nurse Joy when she returned his pokeballs to him he made his out of the pokecenter and then over to the pokemart. He figured he should probably purchase a few potions and a couple more pokeballs for his trek through Viridian Forest.
Miles then hurriedly made his way to the pokemart, for he didn’t want to keep his two friends waiting much longer. He didn’t have very much money left, but he wanted to pick up some more riceballs, and another pokeball just in case. He nearly had to spend all his money, but he got his pokeball and enough riceballs to hopefully last him and his pokemon until he gained enough money to purchase more.
Once his gear was all in place Miles made his way over to where Blinky, and Dylan were standing.
“Well guys, sorry about the holdup there. You two ready to get this show on the road?” Miles asked, as he slung his pack across his shoulders.
The three friends began walking towards the entrance to Viridian Forest. This marked the newest chapter in their quest. They all knew they would be tested, and that they must hurdle this obstacle in order to one day claim the title of Pokemon Master.

Jacob, the maladroit acedia that he was, began to feel better about himself and the situation as Blinky introduced himself to the gang. The young boy even was easily willing to speak to him without any discomfort. “I’m Jacob by the way,” he smiled as he said it, finding the newcomer to be easy to get along with and seemed also a little strange, so he felt like he fit in a little more. Plus he was flattered; his sapient leadership was able to draw in someone who left the group early on. But he kept that to himself, afraid of the possibility of someone denoting of that as the reason that he came on board. It was also nice to know they were becoming formidable for what challenges he sought out to contest with may be over their heads… but not over their hearts! A moment later, “L-Lashes?!” He jumped aback as he witnessed Lashes rubbing along his legs in the most friendly manner. “You are barely like that for me?! You little traitor!” She batted her eyelashes cockily at the young boy before going by and acquiring the attention of the entire group like an attention hog. “Oh brother… Let’s get this show on the road Team Jacob! Let’s move out!” He moodily spun around and began trotting off towards the distant woods as his Lashes reluctantly followed, Golden clinging onto the side of his head like a tumor.
“Hey, why do they call you Blinky?” As he spoke with his new friends and walked he surveyed the surroundings for any white cloaked men, but to his dismay he did not see any. Without any interruptions he came upon the entrance to the Viridian Forest. “So our adventure north continues…” Jacob announces dramatically to his older peers. “Inside are many trainers and what I have read about… piles and upon piles of…” he gulped out loudly as he broke out suddenly in a ridiculous sweat, “bug pokemon.” Lashes gulped loudly too as she hid behind her master’s boney legs as she and him tried to hide their discord of that type of pokemon in front of the sensitive Caterpie. “This is a part of pokemon adventure that will lead us to our first gym… but do not forget our current mission,” he spun on his heels in front of the mass of people to face them. “Inside these forests are a large organized group of older people who have dark and sinister goals that we must exploit for the good of Viridian City and maybe…” he smiled as he scanned his eyes across the viewers and then eventually to acknowledge the now grinning Eevee and the silently pleased Pikachu, “the entire world. And with that ladies and gentlemen… we shall head out!”
He smoothly ambled up to the new target milieu with cogent march like steps, the grass grower darker and bushes becoming more plentiful while trees began to overtake the land, finally making the transformation to the massive Viridian Forest’s immediate start. As far as the eyes could perceive were looming thick trees with the darkest bark and the longest branches, festooned with beautiful leaves and overtaken with ever growing moss. The grass now rose to the adventurer’s knees, which tickled any bare skin and sent down shivers to the insect phobia bearers, like Jacob and Lashes, who moved suddenly slower and with less vitality then before, however Golden seemed to give the young trainer courage to push onward, and he hoped the strangely morale boosting creature that it was, shared its mood increasing power with the rest of the advancing party. Replacing the background music of talking and human or machine caused noises, a more nature soundtrack was played which involved the chirps of birds and buzz of animals in the Insecta class, and branches snapped from fellow people chatting with each other and searching for vermin and mites to discover and capture after a test of strength in a pokemon battle.
But more to the interest of the fresh invaders of the area, at least to Jacob, this place was far more plentiful in the pokemon aspect, being more human untouched of an area than the small people infested Route 1. Weedles and Wurmples scoured the ground, hidden with the grass from predators, pokemon and trainers alike. Up above were Ladyba’s, a ladybug looking pokemon, that flew above the sky along Spearows and Pidgeys, two types of pokemon that were present in Route 1, with a single Yanmna which led them all. Along the trees were Spineraks and Nincadas that clung to the wet bark and licking the dripping water, along with a pond nearby that had Surskits skating along the water like a water spider, entirely weightless above the azure still waters while a sole trainer sat extremely bored and unpleased with his pokemon rod. Dangling from branches were motionless Pinecos and slow moving Slakoths while swift moving Mankeys, a pokemon seen at Professor Oak’s laboratory, ruled the vines with their never ending energy. And this was all in the first instant of seeing the patio of the jungle of pokemon, who knew what else could be inside if only one explored!
Jacob suddenly bursted out laughing from the mere joy and excitement. “Pokemon are so amazing; I don’t think I could ever get used to this!” He looked back at everyone to see their joyous faces. He had forgotten entirely of the danger of the organization and the grotesqueness of the bug pokemon for a moment as he stepped forward a bit more and spun on his heels in circles to take in the vast world within a world he just stepped into. It was until he tripped over Lashes did he remember the situation. “Ouch ouch ouch ouch Lashes where did you get the steroids! Get off!” He clambered back up as he stamped a few band-aids on his limbs, “I deduce that no danger is anywhere near here, look how plentiful the pokemon are? They are living their everyday lives without fear or hindrance. And these trainers are just chilling, so I am going to go ask some of them if they have seen or heard anything in just a moment. I suggest we enjoy the pleasantry that is this forest. And I wander… where are all the caterpies?” he heard a tiny insect on Dylan’s shoulder soil itself. “Er… wait I think its fine! This is a big place, they could be anywhere. Let’s just focus on fun and training for the moment… Besides, we are going to have to get stronger in order to face these tough bad guys.” As he turned around he heard Caterpie soil himself again.
“Now my good friends,” he brusquely traveled to the nearest pokemon trainer with Lashes clinging onto him like Pikachu, but not out of love or by weirdness like Pikachu was, but out of fear of what bug was traveling in the grass below; all the while letting the rest of Team Jacob explore and have fun at their own speed. “Let us gather some Intel!” Jacob walked up to a young trainer with a large bug net that was running around and laughing at his own stupidity. “You do realize you catch pokemon with pokeballs, right?”
The boy stopped dead in his tracks, “Hey I see you! Pokemon battle, let’s go!!!”
“Wait, what oh god please no I was just—” Jacob gets pelted in the face with a pokeball and it bounces off and sends out a Beedrill pokemon that was facing the wrong direction and started attacking a tree. “Will you please just focus?! I don’t want to fight you and your…” the pokemon continues to stab the tree with its spike tipped arms repeatedly, “uh… pokemon. I just want information.”
“No pokemon battle? But… I saw you…” he scratched his head in confusion. “Alright… that’s cool I guess. What do you need?”
Jacob was about to answer but Golden smacked him in the forehead lightly and then pointed at the still attacking Beedrill, “What’s wrong Golden? Yeah, I know it’s stupid but what… wait a second…” he leaned forward, as did the trainer, curious to try and see what was being focused on. “That pokemon… it has a scar above its right eye. Do you remember how it got it?”
“Hmmm… Oh yeah that… right right I remember that!” he lifted up a finer knowingly and with a smirk. “Wait… my pokemon has a scar? Oh my god is it going to die?! Is my poor Rinkledinkle going to be okay?!” He rushed over and hugged his pokemon, which began having a seizure. “Oh no!”
“Uhhh… You named it Rinkledinkle? Nevermind, no your pokemon is just fine, the scar is harmless and it has been appearing everywhere."
The trainer leaned back and studied his pokemon, “Oh right, I forgot Rinkledinkle always did that. Awww, precious adorable little fella!” He then proceeded to hug the wiggling pokemon. Jacob immediately left the trainer’s vicinity.
“I got away safely!” he huffed and puffed for air as he rested on a tree and looked over to see if the thing followed him. “Phew… lost him.” He held onto his shivering Lashes, who already was not liking the new place, while the Pikachu scratched its head in confusion. “Doesn’t surprise me… he probably has a scar on him too. Probably more than one by the looks of that poor kid, ha ha.” Lashes smiled at the joke and took comfort by nuzzling. “Lashes, why are you snuggling with a weedle? That is kind of gross.” Her eyes opened wide and she cried out in fright and scampered under her trainer as she shook like an alarm clock. “Er… Golden, can you get that thing away from us? I’m kind of… I mean Lashes is kind of scared.” Golden shook its head no. “N-No? Why not… Don’t you like me?” It shook its head yes. “Yeah… I can tell by how tight your crushing my skull right now… Let me guess… you don’t like fighting very much do you?” It shook its head yes laconically. “That is fine with me, I won’t hold that against you. I think that is pretty great actually.” He petted the Pikachu’s soft topaz fur as the weedle continued to nuzzle sweetly with Lashes as she screamed in horror.

Caterpie trembled uncontrollably. The memories he had fought so diligently to repress, to hide from, rushed back to him; the trees, the forest sounds, the gentle breeze gently slithering its way through the tall grass. There was no doubt Caterpie was back in Viridian Forest. Though he had imagined his return many times via nightmares and ` triumphantly bold plans, in the face of the reality he still felt overwhelmed by the horror of his traumatic past.
Deep inside he needed to see his home again though; needed to be sure that his memory wasn’t just as sick and twisted dream; needed to remind himself of the life he had been blessed with. Caterpie swiveled down to the forest floor, his owner keeping a caring eye on his obviously shaken friend. Caterpie began to feel his way around the moist grass immediately remembering his way around the tall grass.
Following his instincts Caterpie bolted off as fast as he could (not very fast compared to other Pokémon), heading North East. Dylan had taken his eyes off of him for only a moment, admiring the beauty of the forest. Just as his eyes settled back on the grass patch that once held Caterpie, Dylan’s eyes grew wide with disbelief. Again. His precious Caterpie was missing again. At first it was cute, but now it was become a major inconvenience. Scanning ahead Dylan could see the grass rustling in a zigzagged line toward the North East. Calling for his Pokémon partner, Dylan took off in hot pursuit leaving the side of his fellow companions.
It was hard for him to catch up, but the grass had become increasingly tall off of the route. As he reached down to catch his Pokémon he stumbled over himself, tripping over the rough terrain, and fell face first into the forest floor. Caterpie stopped only a little bit to ensure his friend could keep up, but didn’t have the time to stop and care for the small wounds Dylan most definitely had. As he peered over his body to make sure Dylan was able to get himself up off the ground and onto his feet, the terrain below his wriggling body drastically changed. The cool damp grass gave way into a rough rocky earth. In front of the stunned Caterpie the earth was scorched, no trees for at least 100 yards standing. It was a small wasteland in the middle of a lushes and exotic paradise.
Caterpie froze. This was it. The grove he grew up in so long ago. The exact place he watched that monster capture and kill his fellow Pokémon. Deep inside he knew all along it wasn’t a dream. The pain he felt, the memories that plagued his every waking night, the way that man looked coldly into his eyes; it all started here. Caterpie, though incapable of actual tears, began to cry inside, his heart a lost and broken remnant of a formerly cheery Pokémon

Everyone else was freaking out about these scarred pokemon, but Blinky didn't really see what the big deal was. His Squirtle was fine, Miles' pokemon were all good, and as far as he could tell the Caterpie with Dylan didn't ever notice.
He began to nonchalantly walk in the general direction of the exit of the woods and the Pewter City Gym. He also knew the museum director there, who had visited with his parents many times. The man had contacted Blinky when he found out he was a trainer, and told him that he had a way to get an Aerodactyl. Blinky wasn't big on Aerodactyl, but he thought maybe he could give it to one of his friends and show that not only did he want to be the best, but to be in a group of the best; perhaps the group he was in now could be the new Elite 4!
He shook off the daydreaming as he walked face first into a tree and fell backwards. Dylan and Miles ran and quickly helped him up, but Blinky was fine. He always found a way to get hurt, and by now was used to the usual cuts and bruises.
Blinky began talking to Miles and Dylan about his plan to beat all the gyms. He wanted to catch all the pokemon, but more importantly he had to have the right types. "I have Squirtle. He's a water type, and that should be able to take care of Brock, with his rock type pokemon, or a grass, fighting, ground, or steel type would do too. My next badge is Misty, with water type, so I need either an electric pokemon or a grass one. L.T. Surge has electric, so I need ground type. And Erica is a grass specialist, so I need fire or bug or poison or flying. I wanna find at least one of those here in the woods." Miles and Dylan agreed, and they all began to look out for any of the types that would aid them.
Blinky hoped for a Chikorita or a Cubone or a Cyndaquil, as he had seen them all in his parents safari, and had wanted each since he was a kid. As they set off into the woods, Blinky saw a group of Mankey's beating on the very Chikorita he hoped to catch. Now, some people argue that bravery and stupidity are synonymous. Well in the case of Blinky, this was one hundred percent true. He quickly ran out into the little grove and yelled at the Mankey's as he pulled them off of the crying Chikorita. However, he forgot how strong a group of apes were, and the six Mankey's quickly knocked him out and jumped off through the trees.
As he lay in the soft grass, the small grass pokemon he had just saved crawled over to him and began licking his face, trying to wake him up, as his new friends yelled and shook him.
